Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI) is the Nodal Agency for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Centre for Climate Change for combined Andhra Pradesh (AP) since 2001. The Government of Telangana issued GO.Ms.No.06 dated 17.03.2016 appointing EPTRI as Nodal Agency for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and Centre for Climate Change. Telangana State Climate Change Centre (TSCCC) is being strengthened by Department of Science & Technology, Government of India under the project ‘Strengthening the State Climate Change Centre/Cell (SCCC) in the State of Telangana.

Objectives of the Centre

• To build a data bank and develop Climate Knowledge Portal repository for storing and retrieving climate change information at the state level for use to all sectoral line departments, Institutes/Universities, citizens etc.
• To establish a network with various stakeholders within the State.
• To develop sector specific adaptation and mitigation strategies in sectors identified in the Telangana State Action Plan on Climate Change (TSAPCC).
• Assessment of risk and vulnerability of the State to climate change through partnerships with academic institutions.
• To undertake capacity building activities for all relevant Departments of State Governments/stakeholders while creating awareness on climate change

Activities by the Centre

• Prepared the State Action Plan on Climate Change (SAPCC) for Telangana in 2015 and is currently revising the same as per the directions of the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change (MoEF & CC).
• “Resilient Agricultural Households through Adaptation to Climate Change in Mahabubnagar (erstwhile) District, Telangana (RAH-ACT),” was sanctioned by MoEF & CC, GoI. The project is being executed in association with the Department of Agriculture (DoA),Professor Jayashankar of Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU) and ICRISAT, which will benefit 3,438 farmers by providing them alternative livelihoods by implementing integrated farming systems.
• “Restoration of Degraded Landscapes to Natural State of Ecosystems for Climate Resilience and Livelihood Improvement of Vulnerable Communities in Telangana” was sanctioned by MoEF&CC, GoI. The project is being executed in association with the Forest Department, Government of Telangana, which helps in restoration of the degraded forest ecosystems, reverse the trajectory of retrogressive succession and enable livelihood security for the people at 11 locations in 7 Districts of the State.
• Preparing ‘State Specific Action Plans on Water: Towards Water Security, Safety and Sustainability: 2050 for the States of Telangana, Nagaland & Mizoram.
• Capacity building programmes for Line Departments on Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation.
